Three Bangladeshi nationals have been detained by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) from the Indian side of Par-Gopalpur border at Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district.

The incident took place around 11:30 AM on Sunday.

The detainees were identified as Hridoy alias Rabbi, son of Hayat Ali of Kanaidanga village; Shahin, son of the late Usman Gani of Gopalpur village; and Sohag, son of Abu Bakkar of Par-Gopalpur village.

According to local sources, the three youths had illegally entered India on Saturday and were returning to Bangladesh the following morning when BSF personnel detained them about 100 metres inside Indian territory near border pillar 49/2-S.

Confirming the matter, Lt Col Rafiqul Alam, commanding officer of BGB-58 Battalion in Jhenaidah, said the BSF informed them that a large quantity of narcotics was recovered from the detainees.

He added that necessary legal procedures between the two countries are currently underway.

Maheshpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan said police have been informed of the incident and further details will be available later.
