An unidentified woman was killed after being hit by a passenger bus while attempting to cross the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 4:30 pm near the Srinagar Ferry Ghat area, according to officials.
Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the Srinagar Fire Station received information about the accident at around 4:30 pm. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene and recovered the body.
He said the woman had reportedly got off a Dhaka-bound Aram Paribahan bus and was crossing the expressway when she was struck by another unidentified passenger bus. She died on the spot.
The body was later handed over to the Highway Police for legal procedures.
Police said the identity of the deceased could not be established immediately. She is believed to have been around 32 years old.
Authorities recovered a mobile phone, a bag and Tk 1,000 in cash from the scene and handed the belongings over to the police.
Officer-in-Charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, Mamunur Rashid, said efforts are underway to identify the victim and that legal proceedings are in progress.
