
Several thousand employees dismissed from six Islamic banks once controlled by S Alam Group gathered in front of the Islami Bank head office in Dilkusha at 10 am on Sunday. Most of them are from Patiya in Chattogram. They raised various slogans demanding reinstatement.
Later, a programme was held at 12:30 pm in front of the bank's central office under the banner of the Islami Bank Victims Customer Coordination Council.
The coordination council demanded the arrest of S Alam, recovery of allegedly smuggled assets, and repeal of the newly introduced section of the Bank Resolution Act.
During the counter-programme, participants displayed various banners, including "Stop the plot to take over Islami Bank," "Abolish the black law on bank takeover," and "S Alam No More."
Nurun Nabi, president of the Islami Bank Victims Customer Coordination Council, announced five demands during the human chain and declared a 15-day programme.
The five-point demands include the arrest of S Alam and other alleged "bank robbers," confiscation of domestic assets, and recovery of laundered money from abroad.
Section 18/A added to the Bank Resolution Act should be repealed for the rehabilitation of bank robbers.
The government should take responsibility for the situation that arises if S Alam's friends, Patiya Bahini, who illegally created a mob in front of the bank, are given another opportunity.
Any illegal occupying force that created a mob will not be tolerated if it is given a chance to enter the bank.
The bank ownership should be returned to the real owners of the bank, from whom S Alam forcibly seized the ownership through Hasina's bribery force, immediately.
The 15-day program is: Start a leaflet distribution program with five-point demands to shape public opinion. Use all media, especially online, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter. If necessary, take measures to print and post posters.
Popularize the five-point demands among unemployed students, youth and small businessmen. Because the confiscated funds will be used for their employment.
