Malaysia's Immigration Department has detained 16 foreign nationals, including five Bangladeshi citizens, during a special enforcement operation at a workers' accommodation in the Padang Meha industrial area in Kedah.

The raid, carried out in the early hours of Monday (April 20), targeted undocumented foreign workers residing illegally in the premises. Authorities confirmed that legal action is being taken against those found in violation of immigration laws.

Datuk Lokman Efendi Ramli, Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the Immigration Department, confirmed the operation. Acting on intelligence, enforcement officers launched the raid at approximately 1:20am.

During the operation, documents of 33 foreign nationals were inspected. The individuals included citizens of China, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Among them, 10 Chinese nationals, five Bangladeshis, and one Myanmar national were detained for lacking valid documents and work permits. Some workers attempted to flee during the raid but were unsuccessful due to the swift response of immigration officers.

According to Datuk Lokman, the workers' accommodation consisted of two double-storey blocks equipped with basic facilities, along with a small retail shop operating on-site. Those detained have been sent to the Belantik Immigration Detention Centre in Sik for further legal proceedings.
