Bangladesh fined for slow over rate in 2nd NZ ODI

Hosts Bangladesh have been fined 10 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the second ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Mehidy Hasan Miraz's side was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a press release on Wednesday.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

ICC said in the press release that "Mehidy pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing."

Bangladesh, eventually, won the game by six wickets to level the three-match series following a 26-run defeat in the first ODI.

The series deciding third ODI will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.     "BSS
