NARAIL, Apr 24: A unique event was held in Narail on Friday to honour farmers for their contribution to agriculture and food security, creating a festive atmosphere in the Dhopakhala area.

The programme was organised on the occasion of the 6th founding anniversary of Nandankanan Child Development and Cultural Center.

Held at 11:00am, the event paid tribute to farmers described by organisers as the backbone of the country's food production system. Local cultural activists and guests took part in the ceremony, which blended cultural activities with recognition of farmers' work.

During the event, Nandankanan President writer Subhash Chandra Biswas distributed traditional items including kachi, gamcha, mathal, along with small cash incentives among the farmers as a gesture of appreciation.

Among others present were organisation General Secretary Dr Maya Rani Biswas, Khulna University Fine Arts Department Chairman painter Bimanesh Biswas, and The Daily Ocean editor Alamgir Siddiqui.

Organisers said such events help build social awareness about the role of farmers in ensuring food security and preserving rural traditions.

Farmers who received the honour expressed happiness over the recognition. They said such appreciation is rare and meaningful in their lives.

"We work hard in the fields, but rarely get recognition. This honour makes us proud," said one of the participating farmers.

Dr Maya Rani Biswas said the organisation hopes to continue such initiatives in the future to preserve local culture and strengthen the connection between society and agriculture.

The event concluded with cultural performances and discussions on rural development and agricultural heritage.
