Shibir using JnUCSU for party agenda: JCD

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed representatives of the Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) have alleged that Islami Chhatra Shibir is using the student body to advance its political agenda, sparking concerns over the neutrality of the elected platform.

The allegation was raised at a press conference held on Friday (April 24) in front of the Language Martyr Rafiq Building on campus.

Addressing the media, speakers claimed that instead of prioritizing student welfare, Shibir leaders are attempting to turn JnUCSU into a vehicle for implementing partisan agenda. They warned that such activities undermines the transparency, inclusiveness, and effectiveness of the student union.

The representatives emphasized that JnUCSU was established to represent students' interests, addressing their rights, problems, and demands and should remain free from any form of political influence.

Md. Riasal Rakib, Library and Seminar Secretary of JnUCSU, said, "Despite being a platform for general students, JnUCSU has increasingly been used to carry out party-driven activities since the election. Recent protest marches were organized without any consultation with us."

He further alleged, "Although we are elected representatives, we are kept in the dark. Even yesterday, a protest procession was decided unilaterally."

Issuing a warning, Rakib said that if such attempts to push party agendas under the JnUCSU banner continue, they will be forced to take appropriate action.

Literature and Cultural Affairs Secretary Takrim Ahmed said, "JnUCSU is a representative body of students. Using its platform for personal or partisan statements is unacceptable. It is our responsibility as elected representatives to ensure its proper and impartial use."

He also alleged that a vested group is deliberately trying to damage the image of JnUCSU and urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and united.

Transport Secretary Md. Mahid Hasan and Executive Member Sadman Samya were also present at the press conference.
