A young man was shot to death by a gang of miscreants at Raozan upazila of Chattogram district on Friday.

The incident took place at around 3AM, in front of Abul Naim Saudagar residence in the Dhalar Mukh area of Ward 9, under Raozan Municipality.

The deceased was identified as Kawsaruzzaman Bablu, 35, son of Abul Kalam Saudagar, a day laborer and a sand and brick supplier.

According to family members and local sources, Bablu was returning home from an invitation at his maternal grandfather's house accompanied by his cousin Polin.

On their way back, they were intercepted by a gang of eight to 10 armed men. The attackers initially beat Bablu before shooting him at point-blank range, leaving him critically injured. The assailants then fled the scene.

Locals rescued Bablu and rushed him to a nearby hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries  while undergoing treatment.

Abul Kalam Saudagar, victim's father, claimed that Bablu had been receiving threats for a long time due to his vocal stance against local terrorism and extortion.

Raozan Police Station, officer-in-charge (OC) Sajedul Islam, confirmed that Bablu died from gunshot wounds.

He added that no one else was reported injured in the incident, police are currently investigating the matter and legal proceedings are underway.
