Mysterious death of father, son in Tongi

Bodies of a man and his son were recovered at Bonmala area of Tongi on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Hossain, 52, a former expatriate worker and his 18-year-old son, Sakib Hossain, an 11th-grade student.

According to police reports, Sakib was found dead inside his home. His mouth had been stuffed with cloth to prevent him from screaming, his wrists were slit and he was ultimately strangled to death.

Meanwhile, his father’s body was discovered on a nearby railway track with injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

The authorities have taken Sohel’s elder son, Sohan Hossain, 27, a private company worker, into custody for questioning. 

Sohan claimed he was asleep in the adjacent room after returning from a night shift and was unaware of this tragic incident.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Tongi East Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan stated that while the exact cause of death is still under investigation, the circumstances surrounding the incident are highly suspicious. 

Legal proceedings are currently underway, added the OC.
