Schoolboy, 2 others killed in Gaibandha lightning strike

Three individuals, including a schoolboy, were killed in a lightning strike in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Fuad, 14, son of former UP chairman Jahangir Alam Suja Chowdhury, Rafi, 12, son of Al Mojahid Chowdhury Choton Mia and Mizanur, 20, son of Nabi Hossain. Rafi was a fifth-grade student of a local school.

The incident occurred in Dakkhin Dhopadanga village under Dhopadanga union in the afternoon, leaving two others injured and a cow dead.

According to locals, the victims were standing on a road near their homes when lightning struck them around 4:30 PM, killing all three on the spot. The incident also resulted in the death of a nearby cow.

Later, the injured person, identified as Shamim, 18, son of Abdul Hai Mia of the same village, was rescued and admitted to a nearby hospital.

In a separate incident, a farmer named Ali Akbar was injured by lightning while grazing cattle in the Bulbuli Char area under the Fazilpur Union of Fulchhari Upazila.

Dhopadanga Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Md Mokhlesur Rahman Mondal confirmed the incident.

Sundarganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shaheen Mohammad Amanullah reported the lightning strike, which resulted in the death of three individuals and one injury.
