NARAIL, Apr 26: Poli Khanam, 22, and her one-year-old child Furkan were killed after being run over by a train in the Barashula area of Chitra Setu under Narail municipality.

The incident took place on Saturday at around 12 noon.

The deceased Poli Khanam was the wife of Nur Islam, son of Babul Bhuiyan of Muldwar Village in Auria Union of Narail Sadar Upazila, and the deceased child Furkan was their child.

According to local sources, Poli Khanam and her family members had an argument over a family matter on Saturday morning. Later, everyone went to their respective work. The accident occurred when a train bound for Benapole from Dhaka reached the Barashula area of Chitra Setu in the afternoon.

However, various questions have arisen in the area about whether it was a mere accident or a suicide due to a family dispute. Many consider the incident mysterious.

The deceased's husband, Nur Islam, said, "There was no quarrel between us. Why did this happen, I don't understand anything."

Officer-in-Charge  (Investigation)  of Narail Sadar Police Station Ajay Kumar Kundu said that it was learned from locals that Poli Khanam had been walking on the railway line with the child in her arms for some time. Later, when the Benapole-bound Rupali Express train from Dhaka reached the spot, she sat on the line with the child. Poli Khanam died on the spot.
