Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has called on people to move away from the culture of filing false cases and said the government remains committed to ensuring free legal aid for the oppressed and marginalized people.

He made the remarks on Monday while inaugurating a mobile legal aid camp at Ershad Field in Karail Basti, Banani, in the capital which is part of celebrating  National Legal Aid Day.

"The government is committed to providing free legal aid to the oppressed," the minister said, urging people to resolve disputes through legal aid mechanisms before resorting to litigation.

"Before going to court, try to resolve problems yourselves through legal aid," he said, adding that victims of domestic or sexual abuse who are unable to pursue court proceedings would also be able to receive legal aid assistance.

Focusing on case management and access to justice, he said, "We want to reduce the backlog of cases. Therefore, the initiative of legal aid programme has been taken. Again, if someone wants to compromise a case, arrangements will be made for that too."
The minister further said the government seeks a justice system in which equal protection of law extends "from Karail Basti to the Prime Minister', adding, "No one is above the law."
