The 12th meeting of the committee formed to oversee overall activities of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) was held on Tuesday at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban.

The meeting, chaired by KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju and conducted by KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, took several key decisions on waste management, drainage, traffic control and revenue collection.

It approved land acquisition for garage expansion under a waste management project and decided not to allow land purchase near Rajbandh trenching ground in line with environmental regulations. Road excavation by Khulna WASA will remain suspended until a further decision from the Local Government Division.

The committee extended the deadline till June to realise outstanding advertisement taxes and decided not to allocate contracts to defaulting agencies.

To address waterlogging, silt will be removed from important drains in 12 wards before the monsoon, while additional pipe will be installed in Labonchara canal. A committee will also be formed to regulate easy-bike movement to ease traffic congestion.

The meeting further decided to waive surcharge on trade licence renewals for the current fiscal year and to name the Sonadanga Bus Stand-Moyur Bridge road after former MP Nurul Islam Dadu Bhai.

KCC’s primary healthcare centres will be handed over to the Health Services Division, while illegal structures on the Dakbangla-Ferry Ghat road will be removed to improve traffic movement.

In his remark, the administrator said he had visited remote areas under the city corporation to understand public problems and that efforts were ongoing to resolve them despite limited manpower and resources. He sought cooperation from committee members to build a transparent, accountable and corruption-free city corporation and develop Khulna into a modern city corporation.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Shafiqul Islam, KDA member Md Iqbal Hossain, Mongla Port Authority member Dr AKM Anisur Rahman, Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer Md Tanimul Haque, WZPDCO Executive Engineer Md Murshid Alam, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Mujibur Rahman, National Housing Authority Sub-Divisional Engineer Md Mahmudul Haque, KCC Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Imran, legal advisers and representatives from various government agencies were present during the meeting.
