Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Friday said establishing an independent and influence-free judiciary is essential to ensuring justice in the country.

He made the remarks while addressing a reception programme for newly enrolled lawyers at the Khulna District Bar Association auditorium.

The minister said there is no alternative to professional training for improving the skills of lawyers. He announced that training programmes would soon be introduced in all district bar associations across the country with support from a British organisation.

“To build competent judges, we must first produce skilled and knowledgeable lawyers,” he said.

Addressing the new lawyers, the minister stressed the need to uphold judicial independence, saying, “If an influence-free judiciary can be established, justice will be ensured in the country.”

He also said courts must be turned into institutions of dignity and trust to strengthen democracy, rule of law and human rights in Bangladesh.

The minister urged lawyers to maintain honesty, dedication and professional competence while staying away from unethical activities.

Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, lawmakers Amir Ezaz Khan and Advocate Jahangir Hossain Helal, Senior District and Sessions Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Razi and Deputy Commissioner Hure Jannat addressed the programme as special guests.

The event was chaired by Khulna District Bar Association President Advocate Molla Mohammad Masum Rashid and moderated by General Secretary Advocate Molla Mashiyur Rahman Nannu.

Earlier, the minister also attended an introductory meeting with judicial officials at the conference room of the Khulna District Judge's Court.
