Five members of a family burnt in gas explosion in N'ganj

A couple and their three children suffered severe burn injuries after a gas leak triggered an explosion at a house in the Fatullah area of Narayanganj.

The incident occurred around 7am on Sunday at a residence in the Giridhara area of Fatullah, said Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbub Alam.

"We have sent a team to the scene after receiving the information. Detailed information is still being gathered," the OC said.

The five injured victims were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Assistant Professor Shaon Bin Rahman of the institute said all of them were in critical condition.

The injured are identified as Md Kalam, 35, his wife Sayma, 32, their son Munna, 7, and daughters Kotha, 7, and Munni, 10.
Dr Shaon said Kalam sustained burns on 95 percent of his body, while his wife Sayma suffered burns on 60 percent. Munna sustained 30 percent burns, Kotha 52 percent, and Munni 35 percent.

According to Hasan, a neighbor who helped transport the victims to the hospital, Kalam works as a vegetable seller and lived in the house with his wife and children.

Hasan said a loud explosion suddenly rocked the house around 7am. Hearing the blast, local residents rushed to the scene and found the room engulfed in flames. The victims were later rescued from inside and taken to the hospital.
