World Mother's Day was observed across Bangladesh on Sunday with due dignity and various programmes, as speakers highlighted the growing challenges faced by mothers in raising children in the era of social media and artificial intelligence.

Speaking as the chief guest at the "Garbini Maa 2026" award ceremony in Mohakhali, Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain said moral upbringing of children has become one of the greatest challenges for mothers in the age of artificial intelligence and unrestricted information flow.

He said, "In the era of social media and artificial intelligence, guiding Generation Z in the right direction has become increasingly difficult for mothers. In the future, it will become even more complicated to keep children under proper guidance as before."

The minister called upon the younger generation to utilise artificial intelligence and modern knowledge positively for social and moral development.

The programme, organised as part of the 13th edition of the "Garbini Maa Award" initiated by Universal Medical College Hospital, honoured 11 mothers for their contribution behind the success of their children in different professional sectors.

The event featured emotional accounts of mothers' struggles and expressions of gratitude from their children, creating what organisers described as a reflective and emotional atmosphere.
