Theatre icon Ataur Rahman passes away

Body to be taken to Shaheed Minar

Actor, director and cultural icon Ataur Rahman has passed away at the age of 84.

He breathed his last in the wee hours of Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Popular Medical College Hospital in the capita's  Dhanmondi. There he had been on life support as his physical condition further deteriorated.

Ataur Rahman, a recipient of the Independence Award and Ekushey Padak for his theater work, was initially admitted to a hospital in Gulshan before being shifted to Popular Medical. As his condition continued to deteriorate, doctors placed him on life support. Physicians later said several of his organs had stopped functioning.

His body will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar premises from 3PM to 4PM on Tuesday for all walks of people to pay their last respect. He will buried at Banani graveyard.
