Egg prices have surged sharply in the capital over the past three weeks as rain-disrupted supply chains, rising transport costs and increased consumer demand pushed the kitchen staple beyond the reach of many low and middle-income families.

In neighbourhood grocery shops across Dhaka, farm chicken eggs are now selling at Tk 150 to Tk 155 per dozen, marking a steep increase of nearly Tk 50 within just one month. Only weeks ago, a dozen eggs could be bought for Tk 105 to Tk 110.
