A man and his son were killed after their motorcycle crashed into a stationary truck at Dhuliakhal area of Habiganj Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Kaiyum, 50, a local grocer from Sultan Mamudpur area, and his 18-year-old son, Jakir Hossain.
After the accident, agitated locals set fire to the parked truck.
According to locals, Jakir was riding on the motorcycle to bring his father back from a dentist's chamber. On their way home, Jakir lost control, which then slammed heavily into the rear of the truck. The impact was so severe that both father and son were fell down from the vehicle.
Locals rushed to the spot and eventually rescued the duo from a nearby roadside bush. They were rushed to Habiganj 250-Bed District Sadar Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
An enraged crowd set fire to the truck shortly after the incident, which was later brought under control by a unit of the Habiganj Fire Service.
Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shawn Ahmed confirmed that police have seized both the truck and the motorcycle from the scene.
The bodies were handed over to the grieving relatives on Saturday night after the completion of legal formalities, the SI added.
