Dubai Taxi Company, a Dubai-based company of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), expressed its intension to recruit more 6,000 taxi drivers from Bangladesh.
According to the company, currently Dubai employs around 15,000 taxi and limousine drivers from 27 countries worldwide, including nearly 8,000 Bangladeshis.
During a meeting with Bangladesh's Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury at his office on Sunday, a delegation from the Dubai Taxi Company expressed the intension while paying a courtesy call.

They noted that Bangladeshi workers are given priority because of their dedication and strong work ethic. The delegation also highlighted that Bangladeshi women are successfully working as drivers at Dubai Airport.
During the meeting, the minister thanked the Dubai-based company for continuing to recruit skilled Bangladeshi drivers and expressed hope that the recruitment process would continue in the coming years. He assured the delegation of full cooperation from the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment in facilitating the recruitment process.
The minister also urged the company to ensure salary and allowances for workers during their training period after arriving in Dubai. In addition to drivers, he encouraged the company to recruit more Bangladeshi professionals, including doctors and nurses, as part of expanding "white-collar" employment opportunities abroad.

The company representatives further announced that interviews for skilled Bangladeshi drivers will begin tomorrow at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre (TTC). Through this recruitment drive, the company plans to hire another 1,500 drivers immediately and aims to recruit a total of 6,000 Bangladeshi drivers this year.
Speaking at the event, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque emphasized the need to reduce migration costs for workers seeking employment in Dubai. He said many aspiring drivers come from low-income backgrounds and often borrow money to finance their migration expenses. He therefore requested that the total migration cost be reduced to within Tk 100,000.
Representatives from Al Anas Overseas, the sole authorized recruiting agency for sending workers to the UAE company, were also present at the meeting. They expressed interest in recruiting Bangladeshi workers not only as drivers but also as cleaners, technicians and mechanics, and sought continued support from the ministry in this regard.
Senior officials of the ministry, including Secretary Md Mokhter Ahmed, along with members of the Dubai Taxi Company delegation and other high-ranking officials, were present at the meeting.
