Hasnat seeks ‘Justice Card’ from govt

Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) South Region Chief Coordinator and Cumilla-4 lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah on Wednesday demanded a “justice card" from the government, alleging that people are still being deprived of justice despite various welfare initiatives.

“The government is introducing different cards, including Family Card and Farmer Card. But people are not getting justice. So, we want a ‘Justice Card’ from the government,” he said while addressing a road march and street rally in Nangalkot upazila of Cumilla district at around 8:00 PM.

Hasnat alleged that a culture of impunity, corruption and repression still exists in the country, while freedom of expression has become increasingly restricted.

He claimed that incidents of enforced disappearance and killings have not completely stopped and many victims avoid seeking legal support due to fear of not getting justice.

The NCP leader also criticised the healthcare and administrative sectors, saying the country still suffers from shortages of ICU facilities, corruption in recruitment processes and broker syndicates at police stations.

“As long as justice is not ensured in society, all development initiatives of the government will remain questionable,” he said, adding that people would one day respond either through ballots or mass resistance.

Among others, NCP central joint member secretary Zainal Abedin Shishir, Jatiya Jubo Shakti convener Advocate Tarikul Islam and Cumilla district supervisor Nabid Nowroz Shah were present at the programme.
