2:40 AM call raises questions over Rangpur quadruple murder

A preliminary investigation by Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) raised key questions and inconsistencies regarding police explanations in the murder of a retired teacher and his three family members in Rangpur.
Following the arrest of two suspects, an ASK team visited Rangpur on August 24 and 25. They interviewed victims' relatives, neighbors, suspects' families, police, and forensic staff.
Deceased Pritilata Chakraborty’s sister, Puja Chakraborty, revealed that Pritilata made an unexplained phone call to her at 2:40 AM on August 21, which went unanswered.
ASK emphasized that analyzing Call Detail Records (CDR) and digital evidence of this 2:40 AM call is critical, as it conflicts with the timeline provided by the police.
According to Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud, suspects Siddharth Das and Mugdha Das were consuming Yaba on the roof when Ganapati Chakraborty confronted them.
Police claimed the suspects strangled Ganapati to prevent exposure, subsequently killing three other family members - Pritilata, Agami, and Ayush Chakraborty - before staging a robbery.
Police further claimed the suspects stayed inside the house, ate food, and showered before leaving.
However, ASK noted that physical evidence - such as fingerprints, DNA, hair samples, and water usage - must be scientifically verified to validate whether the suspects actually remained in the house post-crime.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (DB) Sanatan Chakraborty stated that investigators are examining all evidence while dismissing outside rumors.
Meanwhile, parents of the arrested suspects questioned the police narrative and demanded a fair, neutral investigation.
Morgue staff reported no sharp weapon wounds or immediate signs of sexual assault on the bodies, though official forensic and chemical reports are still pending to determine the exact cause of death.
