Two accused held for supplying drugs to court during trial

PABNA, May 22: Senior Judicial Magistrate Matiur Rahman has sentenced two accused to prison after completing a summary trial in the case of one accused supplying drugs to another in a courtroom in Pabna.

The incident took place at noon in the courtroom of the Senior Judicial Magistrate 4th Court on the 7th floor of the Pabna Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building.

According to court sources, the accused Md. Turya Islam Asif, who had come to appear in a murder case, was supplying drugs to the accused, Md. Sujan Ahmed Rony, who was in custody in a robbery case, in the courtroom. When the matter came to the attention of the lawyers present and the police on duty, both were immediately searched. During the search, 20 grams of marijuana were recovered from Asif, and four pieces of yaba tablets from Rony. Later, when the court police submitted a written complaint along with the CSI seizure list, the court considered it and conducted the trial promptly. After the trial, the accused, Md. Turya Islam Asif was sentenced to six months in prison and Md. Sujan Ahmed Rony to one year in prison under the relevant section of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. 

Lawyers and responsible persons in the courtroom said that taking immediate action and conducting short trials in cases like drug supply will play an important role in maintaining law and order.
