MP Lobby distributes GR rice to poor people

KHULNA, June 21: Speakers at a humanitarian assistance programme held at the Kathaltala Ashrayan Project under Atlia Union in Dumuria Upazila of the district on Saturday said that the government is working tirelessly to improve the lives of the country’s people.

Khulna-5 Constituency MP Ali Asgor Lobby led the programme while visiting the project. At that time, he listened to the grievances and hardship of the residents. Later, he distributed GR (government relief) rice and cash among the destitute and disaster-hit families under the 2025-26 fiscal year’s relief programme.

Addressing a gathering on the project premises as the chief guest, MP Lobby said providing housing alone is not enough, stressing the need to create sustainable income opportunities and strengthen social security measures for Ashrayan residents.

Chaired by Dumuria UNO Sabita Sarkar, leaders of BNP and civil society and government officials spoke.

In her remarks, the UNO said the upazila administration is working relentlessly to ensure that the Ashrayan Project residents enjoy their civic rights and get government services.

Chairman of Atlia Union Parishad Sheikh Helal Uddin delivered the welcome address and thanked the Prime Minister, MP and administration for undertaking the humanitarian initiative. 

Among others, Bangladesh Army Warrant Officer Abu Taher, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Rafiqul Islam and Acting Convener of Upazila Juba Dal Sardar Billal Hossain attended the programme.
