11 more children die of measles

Another 11 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours.
Of them, two children died after being infected with measles, while nine others died with symptoms of the highly contagious viral disease.

According to a bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, a total of 499 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms nationwide since March 15.

Among the deaths, 85 children died from confirmed measles infections, while 414 others died with symptoms associated with the disease.

The highest number of deaths linked to measles symptoms - 160 - has been recorded in Dhaka Division, followed by 79 in Rajshahi Division.

The DGHS said 54 new measles cases were detected in the 24 hours until 8:00 am Friday.
During the same period, 1,261 people with measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country, of whom 1,104 were admitted.

The highest number of admissions with measles symptoms in the last 24 hours was recorded in Dhaka Division, where 449 patients were admitted to hospitals. The lowest number of admissions, six, was reported in Rangpur Division.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country has risen to 60,540, while the number of confirmed cases stands at 8,329.
