Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Sunday said the government has adopted a specific action plan to control crime in the capital, including Mohammadpur, and criminals will be eliminated through its implementation in phases.

He made the remarks this afternoon while responding to a question from journalists at an award ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat to honor some police members for their commendable and praiseworthy work in maintaining law and order.

On the occasion, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Inspector General of Police (IGP), DMP Commissioner, senior officials were present.

Referring to the government’s transparency in taking departmental action, the Home Minister said, the matter of the temporary suspension of former Gazipur Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan is being processed according to legal and departmental law.

On the other hand, action was taken against the concerned constable, sub-inspector, and OC on the allegation of humiliation and physical assault on national cricketer Naeem Hasan in Chattogram.

Regarding the recent tension between Coast Guard personnel and locals in Mongla, the Minister said that the Coast Guard is operating according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to suppress pirates in the Sundarbans and coastal areas. When followers of the identified dacoit Miraj attacked the Coast Guard, they took defensive measures, and the law and order situation there is now completely under control.

On the issue of a nationwide police alert centering around the founding anniversary of a banned political party (whose activities are prohibited under the Anti-Terrorism Act) on June 23, the Minister said, "We have intelligence report that they may attempt to create chaos and instability in the country on that day.    "BSS
