
LGRD Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said people of the country now dream of building a new Bangladesh and would not forgive those who make mistakes in serving the country.
He made the remarks while addressing a programme marking the 78th founding anniversary of the Engineers Institution Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital.
Fakhrul stressed the importance for accountable development, democracy, human rights and the responsible role of engineers, criticising the corruption and misuse of public funds during the previous government's tenure.
He urged engineers and officials to work honestly and responsibly to meet people's expectations.

He also said organisations under the Ministry of Local Government, including WASA and the Department of Public Health Engineering, provide basic services to the people, creating high public expectations from these institutions.
Referring to corruption during the previous government's tenure, Fakhrul said newspapers frequently reported that huge amounts of money had been allocated for projects without any proper implementation.
He alleged that in some districts crores of Taka had been spent without completing the projects properly.
He urged engineers and government officials to be more careful, honest and responsible in carrying out development work.
"Accountable development activities and proper planning are necessary to build a better Bangladesh," he said.
Fakhrul described IEB as a prestigious organisation that has contributed significantly to the country's development over the years. He expressed hope that the institution would continue serving the nation in the future.
Praising special guest Engineer Tuhi, he said that Tuhi had worked courageously for the families of victims of enforced disappearances and torture.
"There was a time when even talking about disappearances was difficult, but Tuhi continued raising the issue internationally despite many challenges," he added.
