| BREAKING: |
Six children died at a hospital in the capital city of Dhaka on Wednesday morning. The cause of the children's death, however, was not immediately confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Ramna Division of DMP Sheikh Zahidul Islam confirmed the news saying that they received information that six children had died at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar area.
The DC said, “We came after receiving reports of the unnatural deaths of six children in the post-operative room. These children are one to two days old.”
Mazharul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Zone, said that there were 11 mothers and six children in the hospital’s post-operative room at night.
“We have learnt from talking to the hospital, around 2:00am, some mothers started feeling unwell. They were having difficulty breathing. At around 4:00am, the AC was turned off for some reason. Later, at around 6:00am, one child died first. Then gradually the remaining five children died,” he said.
A television news report said that the death of six children in the neonatal ward was due to ‘gas leakage’. There is also information on social media about an AC explosion there.
However, DC Zahidul said that no incident of AC explosion was found in the initial investigation.
The Criminal Investigation Department of the police is investigating how the children died.
