Police have recovered three bodies  including a father and his young early Wednesday after they went missing in a boat capsize caused by a sudden storm in the Meghna river at Hizla upazila of Barishal district.

The deceased were identified as Nur Islam Jomaddar, 45, his 12-year-old son Ibrahim Jomaddar, and Md Harun Biswas, 45.

According to police and local sources, the accident occurred on Monday when an engine-run boat carrying eight passengers was travelling from Aliganj ferry ghat to Dhulkhola ferry ghat with rice distributed under fishermen card benefits.

The boat sank after being caught in a sudden storm near the Old Hizla ferry ghat area in Meghna river. Local residents managed to rescue five passengers alive, while the three victims went missing.

The body of Harun Biswas was recovered from the Old Hizla area at around 5:45am on Tuesday.

Later, at around 2:00am on Wednesday, local fishermen spotted two bodies floating in the Bhasanchar area of Mehendiganj upazila and informed the river police. Police recovered the bodies, which were later identified by family members.

Hizla River Police Inspector Gautam Chandra Mondal said rescue operations had been continuing since the accident and the recovered bodies had been handed over to their families.
