The US Embassy in Dhaka has said on Sunday that it will implement a two-day processing system for all immigrant visa categories effective from 1 June 2026.

Effective 1 June 2026, US Embassy, Dhaka will implement two-day processing for all immigrant visa categories. Visit our Directory of Visa Categories and check the Immigrant Visa Categories for more information, the embassy said.

The move comes months after the United States Department of State clarified its decision to pause immigrant visa issuances for nationals of 75 countries, including Bangladesh.

In a Facebook post on 2 March, the US Embassy in Dhaka said the suspension, which took effect on 21 January, applied only to immigrant visas for countries whose immigrants have a high rate of collecting public assistance at the expense of the US taxpayer.

The embassy had stressed that the measure did not affect visitor visas, meaning short-term travel visas continued to be issued as before.

It also said citizens of affected countries could still submit immigrant visa applications and attend scheduled interviews, with the Department of State continuing to schedule interviews.

On 14 January, the State Department announced the suspension of immigrant visa processing for nationals of 75 countries.

According to a State Department notice, the freeze would remain in effect until the US could ensure that new immigrants will not extract wealth from the American people.
