RAJBARI, June 2:  Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Afroza Parvin has instructed the authorities concerned to take all necessary measures to prevent river erosion in Deobgram of Goalanda Upazila.

The directive came after she visited erosion-affected areas in Daulatdia Deobgram Union of Goalanda Upazila on Monday afternoon.

During the visit, she inspected damaged settlements, homesteads, agricultural land and the ferry terminal area, and ordered immediate protective measures to prevent further erosion.

She also advised the authorities to begin emergency protection work, including geo-bag dumping, without delay.
The DC further visited erosion-prone areas around the Daulatdia ferry terminal and instructed concerned departments to start protective works immediately.

She stressed the need for coordinated planning to prepare a long-term and sustainable embankment project to address the erosion problem permanently.

During the inspection, Goalanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sathi Das, Assistant Commissioner (Land), officials from the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), and representatives and engineers from Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) were present.

Speaking to journalists, the Deputy Commissioner said the Daulatdia ferry terminal area is known as the gateway to 21 districts, making it a highly important transport route.

She said the district administration is committed to protecting the riverbank settlements and ensuring uninterrupted ferry operations.

She also instructed authorities to keep ferry services fully operational ahead of the monsoon season to reduce passenger suffering.
