Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has thwarted alleged attempts by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push people into Bangladesh through two separate border points in Dinajpur and Meherpur on Saturday.
The incidents are part of a continuing pattern of similar alleged push-in attempts along different border areas over recent days.
In Dinajpur's Hili border area, BGB stopped an attempt to push five people into Bangladesh through the Ghasuria border point under Hakimpur upazila. The incident took place early Saturday near International Border Pillar No. 288 in India's Chakgopal area. Members of Joypurhat 20 BGB Battalion rushed to the spot after receiving information and took strategic positions.
Facing strong resistance, BSF personnel retreated to the Indian side along with the individuals.
Lieutenant Colonel Latiful Bari, commander of Joypurhat 20 BGB Battalion, said additional security measures have been taken following the incident. Temporary camps have been set up and patrols strengthened, while surveillance along the border has been intensified.
He added that the overall situation remains stable and under close monitoring.
In a separate incident in Meherpur's Gangni upazila, local residents and BGB personnel alleged that six people were attempted to be pushed into Bangladesh through the Tentulbaria border area near International Border Pillar No. 140/5-S.
According to BGB, the individuals were pushed towards Bangladesh from India's Nadia district. Acting on information, personnel from the Tentulbaria camp, along with locals, took positions along the border and resisted the attempt.
Subedar Habibur Rahman, commander of the Tentulbaria BGB camp, said the group later retreated inside Indian territory after facing resistance.
He said BGB had urged the Indian side to take back the individuals and reiterated that any illegal entry attempt would not be tolerated. Regular patrols and surveillance, he added, are continuing to maintain stability along the frontier.
