
The Prabal Express train, which left Cox's Bazar after being stuck at Janalihat station in Chittagong city due to rising water on the railway track, left for Chittagong Railway Station on Sunday afternoon after five days.
Janalihat Station Station Master Nezam Uddin confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo. He said that on Tuesday, water rose at several places between Sholashar and Janalihat stations, stopping train services. As a result, the Probal Express train, which left Cox's Bazar, was stuck in Janalihat. It was taken from Janalihat station to Chittagong station around 12:30 pm today.
Heavy rains began in Chittagong on July 4 due to the influence of monsoon winds. Due to continuous rains, the railway track from Sunnia Madrasa to Shamsherpara in the city was submerged in water on Tuesday. At that time, the railway track was submerged by one and a half to two feet. Although the water receded from the Sunnia Madrasa area, water remained stagnant in Shamsherpara till yesterday evening.
Railway officials said that train services on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar railway route have been suspended since Tuesday due to rising water on the railway line. Four pairs of trains run on the railway line every day. Of these, two pairs from Chittagong and two pairs from Dhaka. Eight to nine thousand passengers travel on them.
