
NAOGAON, June 10: Speakers at a meeting of the District Migration Coordination Committee (DMCC) in Naogaon on Wednesday underscored the need for coordinated initiatives to ensure safe migration, develop a skilled workforce, and increase foreign remittance earnings.
The meeting was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC)'s office at around 10:30 am and was organised by the district administration. It was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, while Additional DC (General) Md Masudul Haque moderated the session.
Addressing the meeting, Md Samanur Imam, Assistant Director of the District Employment and Manpower Office and Member Secretary of the DMCC, stressed the importance of proper information and training for prospective migrant workers before they travel abroad.
"To ensure safe and regular migration, aspiring workers must receive the necessary information and training prior to departure. Following government procedures is essential to avoid falling victim to fraudulent middlemen," he said.
In his remarks, DC Mohammad Saiful Islam described the migration sector as one of the key drivers of the country's economy.
"Remittance inflow can be increased further through the development of skilled manpower and expansion of overseas employment opportunities through legal channels. To achieve this goal, all relevant departments at the district level must work in close coordination," he said.
Among others, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Monir Ali Akand, Senior Instructor of TTC Naogaon Mahmud Al Hadi, Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Development Mahmud Akhtar, Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office Mutasim Billah, President of Naogaon District Press Club ASM Raihan Alam, and committee member Kazi Kamal Hossain also spoke at the meeting.
Participants discussed a range of issues, including measures to ensure safe migration, strategies for increasing remittance growth, strengthening skills development and training programmes, formation of Upazila Migration Coordination Committees (UMCCs), and establishment of a District Vigilance Taskforce Committee.
