BAUPHAL, PATUAKHALI, June 12:   Three physically challenged brothers in Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali have received around Tk 12 lakh in financial assistance after media reports highlighted their hardship.

The beneficiaries are Ripon Das, 40, Sadhan Das, 38, and Nidhor Das, 37. Following the publication of their story in several media outlets, individuals from home and abroad came forward to support them.

Officials said a joint bank account has been opened in the names of the three brothers under the supervision of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), and the donated funds will be managed through this account for their livelihood and medical treatment.

The three brothers are sons of the late Ratan Das of Chandkathi Village under Dhulia Union. Among his five sons and one daughter, three are physically challenged, while one son works as a day-labourer. Two siblings have reportedly migrated to India.

Locals said the brothers had been under the care of their elderly parents for nearly 40 years. After their mother’s death a few days ago, the family faced severe uncertainty.

Neighbour Amit Das said the parents had long taken care of all their needs, including food, bathing and daily activities. After their death, the responsibility fell on their only able brother, Sujan Das, who is a day labourer and financially unable to bear the burden alone.

He said the brothers were often seen visiting their mother’s grave in distress.

Following media coverage, widespread support began pouring in, and by Sunday the family had received nearly Tk 12 lakh in donations.

UNO Saleh Ahmed said a joint bank account has been opened for the brothers, where all donations will be deposited.
He said the funds will be used for their treatment and long-term rehabilitation.
