Bangladesh Women's team tasted a nine-wicket defeat to Australia after being restricted to a modest 77-8 in their second Group-stage match at Leeds on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Australia produced a disciplined bowling display to dismantle Bangladesh's batting lineup. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty top-scored with 27 runs off 47 balls, while Ritu Moni contributed 16 off 26 deliveries.
Bangladesh suffered an early collapse, losing three wickets for just 17 runs and slipping to 27-5 before Joty and Ritu Moni helped prevent a complete meltdown. However, none of the other batters managed to reach double figures as the side finished with only 77 runs from its allotted 20 overs.
For Australia, Kim Garth, Sophie Molineux and Ellyse Perry claimed two wickets each.
Chasing a small target, Australia raced to victory in just 9.3 overs. Openers Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney gave the innings a brisk start before Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter dismissed Mooney for 10 with the score on 31.
Voll then combined with Perry to ensure there were no further setbacks. Voll remained unbeaten on 45, while Perry finished not out on 19 as Australia reached 78-1 with 63 balls to spare.
The victory extended Australia's unbeaten record against Bangladesh in women's T20 internationals to six consecutive matches.
