RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ, June 18: State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib has said the government will fulfil public expectations by implementing its development agenda.
"The people elected the BNP with hopes of development, and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman believes in development. We will meet those expectations through visible development work," he said.
The state minister made the remarks on Thursday while inspecting the construction of the Ichapura and Nagarpara bridges in Rupganj Upazila.
Speaking at the programme, State Minister for Shipping Rajib Ahsan said the Nagarpara bridge had long been a demand of local residents.
"The bridge will play a vital role in improving communication with Dhaka, and we expect it to be opened to traffic within next year," he said.
Speaking as a special guest, Narayanganj-1 lawmaker Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu said the two bridges would transform the area's transportation network by reducing travel time and transportation costs for thousands of commuters.
He said the improved connectivity would also have a positive impact on agriculture, trade and business activities by allowing goods to be transported more quickly and efficiently.
"The people of Rupganj will be able to reach Dhaka in much less time. Once the Nagarpara bridge is completed, it will also become an important route for vehicles travelling from Dhaka to Sylhet," he said.
Among those present during the inspection were Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Saiful Islam, former general secretary of Narayanganj District BNP Golam Faruk Khokon, Rupganj Upazila BNP President Advocate Mahfuzur Rahman Humayun, and local BNP and associate body leaders.
Following the inspection, the ministers attended a programme at the Tarabo Municipal Auditorium, where they distributed vans and goats among beneficiaries as part of a government assistance initiative.
