Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed profound grief over the death of Ekushey Padak-winning poet, freedom fighter and journalist Al Mujahidi, describing his passing as a significant loss to the nation’s literary and cultural landscape.

In a condolence message issued on Friday, the Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Remembering Al Mujahidi’s lifelong contributions, Tarique Rahman said the veteran poet consistently stood for democracy, human rights, and the country's independence and sovereignty.

“His death has created a profound void in our literary and cultural arena that will not be easy to fill,” said the prime minister.

Al Mujahidi, also a prominent student leader of 1960s, passed away at 1:40pm on Friday while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the capital. He was 83.

His death has drawn tributes from various quarters, recognising his contributions to literature, journalism and the nation’s democratic journey.
