Bangladesh and China are expected to sign 15 to 17 bilateral instruments, including two agreements, 13 memorandums of understanding (MoUs), an action plan and a protocol, during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to Beijing.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam confirmed the information while speaking to reporters at a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday morning.

There will also be a discussion regarding Teesta project, he said.

The Foreign Secretary indicated that the delegation size for the Prime Minister’s visits to Malaysia and China have been kept relatively small comprising 27 and 28 members respectively.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s twin visit to Malaysia and China is set to begin on Sunday that represents a strategic diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s economic partnerships, attracting foreign investment, and enhancing connectivity.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave for Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, said the Foreign Secretary.

From Kuala Lumpur, the Prime Minister will leave for China on Monday afternoon.

He will be visiting China at the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

This is going to be first trip abroad by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman since his government assumed office in February this year.

During the official visit to China the Prime Minister will attend The World Economic Forum’s 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (2026 Summer Davos Forum).

The World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos forum, will be held in the port city of Dalian, in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, from 23 to 25 June.

More than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries and regions will attend the meeting, and preparations for the event are largely complete, an event spokesperson said at a press conference.

This year’s meeting, themed “Innovating at Scale,” will feature discussions on topics including the next phase of China's economic trajectory and how to translate technological advances into real economic benefits.

Apart from Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting with the Chinese Premier on 25 June, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on 26 June.

The Malaysia leg of the tour is expected to focus on expanding trade, labour market cooperation, and investment opportunities, while the China visit underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening cooperation under key infrastructure, technology, and development frameworks.

Additional Foreign Secretary (Diplomacy and Other Priority Matters) AKM Shahidul Karim and other senior officials of the ministry were also present at the media briefing.
