State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has warned that efforts are being made to weaken Bangladesh by targeting its younger generation through the infiltration of drugs from neighbouring countries.

Speaking as the chief guest at a football tournament organised in Dainya Chowdhury Pashchim Para Village of Tangail Sadar Upazila on Friday, he said, “If the youth society is destroyed, it will become easier to control them (by neighbouring countries).”

The state minister said, “Everyone is aware of where drugs come from. These drugs are entering from the neighbouring countries. They want our country to become weak and crippled. Therefore, everyone must be vigilant and united from their respective positions.”

The Tangail-5 lawmaker further said that drugs will not be allowed to enter Tangail Sadar under any circumstances.

“We will say no to drugs and welcome sports. The next generations must be built as a drug-free youth society through sports,” he added.

Lokman Hossain, former head teacher of Baghil KK High School, presided over the event.

Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former member secretary of Tangail District BNP, Md Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Tangail Sadar Police Station, Shafiqur Rahman Khan Shafiq, former organisational secretary of the district BNP, Azim Uddin Biplob, senior joint secretary of Sadar Upazila BNP, and Abdullahil Kafi Shahed, member of the central committee of Jubo Dal, among others were also present there.
