The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance announced a rally in the capital on Tuesday, demanding trials for all enforced disappearances, killings and massacres committed during the Awami League regime.
Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad made the announcement at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Dhaka’s Moghbazar on Monday.
According to the press conference, the rally is scheduled to be held at Bijoynagar in the capital at 5pm. The alliance will also hold nationwide protest programmes on 4 July.
Speaking at the press conference, Hamidur Rahman Azad said that the signs of a resurgence of ‘fascism’ are becoming evident due to lack of progress in the judicial process.
He said that the Dhaka rally would specifically demand justice for these attacks and killings. Hamidur Rahman Azad called on the public to unite against brutality, government failure and the patronage of fascism.
He further stated that the nationwide programmes to be held on 4 July would address the price hike of essential commodities and the country’s law and order situation.
