Dengue hospitalisations hit yearly high at 1,872, five die

Five people have died from dengue in the past 24 hours, while 1,872 new patients were hospitalised, the highest daily number recorded this year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in its regular dengue bulletin on Tuesday.

With the latest deaths, the dengue death toll has reached 195 this year. Of them, 43 died in August and 98 in the first 22 days of September. The other deaths include 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.

According to the bulletin, 1,872 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country between 8:00 AM Monday and 8:00 AM Tuesday.

The total number of hospitalised dengue patients this year has reached 65,499. Meanwhile, 1,477 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 60,560.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new hospitalisations with 781, followed by Chattogram with 285, Khulna with 316, Barishal with 190, Rajshahi with 162, Mymensingh with 105, Rangpur with 67 and Sylhet with six.
