Improving education quality now top priority: Education Minister

BARISHAL, June 25: Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that the culture of cheating in public examinations no longer exists in the country, and the government's current priority is to improve the quality of education and address the challenges facing the education sector.

He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with officers-in-charge of examination centres at the Barishal District Shilpakala Academy on Thursday morning ahead of the upcoming Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.

"The era of cheating is over. We are now working to improve the quality of education," the adviser said.
He said the government is identifying the factors that hinder educational standards and examining the challenges faced by teachers in order to find effective solutions.

"We are assessing the facilities and limitations of teachers and identifying the reasons behind the decline in educational quality. Efforts are underway to address those issues," he added.

The minister also called on all stakeholders concerned to play a responsible role in ensuring a fair, peaceful and orderly examination environment. Beyond preventing malpractice, maintaining discipline and creating a conducive atmosphere for examinees remain key priorities, he said.

He noted that the government is placing significant emphasis on enhancing educational quality and resolving longstanding problems within the education system.

The meeting was attended by officers-in-charge of examination centres under the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, the Madrasah Education Board and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board in the Barishal region.
Officials were given necessary instructions regarding examination centre management, maintenance of discipline and ensuring a favourable environment for candidates.

Among those present were Barishal City Corporation Administrator Advocate Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin, Divisional Commissioner Khalilur Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mostafizur Rahman, Barishal Education Board Chairman Prof Dr Md Yunus Ali Siddiqui, District Council Administrator Akan Kuddusur Rahman, and other officials.  

After the meeting, the education adviser visited the campus of the University of Barishal. He was received by the university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Md Mamun Or Rashid.

Vice-Chancellor of Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Prof Dr SM Hemayet Jahan, was also present on the campus during the visit.
