Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Friday expressed optimism that Bangladesh would be able to extradite the accused in the Osman Hadi murder case from India, saying New Delhi had already arrested three suspected killers.

“A case has been filed against them with a court as per the law. We have already sent the necessary documents related to the case, as per the agreement with India, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said.

“We are waiting and hoping to get them back. Besides, we will be able to submit the charge-sheet after completing the investigation into the case,” Salahuddin said.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters after attending a meeting at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

The meeting was organised marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026.

Replying to a question, Salahuddin Ahmed said after former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed was arrested in the UAE, the Federal Police of Abu Dhabi informed the Bangladesh government about his arrest through an email.

He said the UAE authorities sought documents regarding Benazir within 30 days, and the Bangladesh authorities prepared them within three days and sent the documents to the UAE government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The home minister also said, “We have not been informed about the Benazir issue by the UAE government yet. But we hope that we will be informed very soon.”
