JASHORE, June 27: Member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged smuggler with 13 gold bars weighing a total of 1.158 kilograms during an operation on the Jashore�"Benapole Highway.
The suspect, identified as Sahab Uddin Sardar, 44, was detained around 4:30 am on Friday in the Godkhali Bazar area of the highway. He is the son of Yasin Sardar of Balunda village under Benapole Port Police Station.
According to BGB officials, a patrol team from the Benapole Border Outpost (BOP) took position on the road at Godkhali Bazar following a tip-off.
When they stopped and searched Sahab Uddin, who was riding a motorcycle, they recovered 13 gold bars specially concealed around his waist.
The total seizure value, including the gold and other confiscated items, has been estimated at Tk 2,22,53,150. In addition to the gold bars, BGB seized the motorcycle allegedly used for smuggling and a mobile phone from the suspect.
