The European Union (EU) on Monday reiterated its support for Bangladesh’s economic reform agenda, promising closer cooperation in trade, investment, sustainable finance and governance as the country prepares to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.

The commitment came during a meeting between Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir and EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller.

EU Commission said the meeting was productive, lively and forward-looking and discussion was held on Bangladesh’s reform priorities and future of EU-Bangladesh cooperation.

The discussion focused on a wide range of issues, including commercial relations, trade diversification, quality investment, public finance reform, sustainable finance, digital governance and Bangladesh’s preparations for LDC graduation.

The EU reiterated its willingness to partner with Bangladesh in promoting rules-based trade, transparent investment, green growth and inclusive development.

The two sides also discussed strengthening economic ties through enhanced cooperation in sustainable finance, investment climate reforms and peer exchanges on transparency, e-governance and social protection systems.

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of Bangladesh and the European Union to deepen their long-standing partnership and support the country’s sustainable economic transformation in the lead-up to LDC graduation.
