Nagad and Rupali Bank PLC have signed an agreement to facilitate faster, safer and hassle-free delivery of inward remittances to beneficiaries across Bangladesh through digital wallets and formal banking channels.

The agreement was signed at Rupali Bank’s head office in Dilkusha, Dhaka.

Bangladesh Bank-appointed Administrator of Nagad Md Motasem Billah and Managing Director of Rupali Bank Kazi Md Wahidul Islam signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.

Under the arrangement, expatriate Bangladeshis will be able to send remittances through international exchange houses, money transfer operators (MTOs) and banks. The funds will then be disbursed by Nagad directly into beneficiaries’ mobile wallets on behalf of Rupali Bank, enabling 24/7 access to money from anywhere in the country.

Officials said the initiative is expected to encourage the use of formal channels for remittance inflow while expanding digital financial inclusion.

Nagad has also been running various incentive programmes to boost remittance inflows, including reward-based campaigns for recipients. Recently, it launched a campaign titled “Har Na Mana Har,” offering gold necklaces to families of expatriates receiving remittances through the platform.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Md Motasem Billah said remittance sent by expatriates plays a vital role in the national economy.

He said the partnership with Rupali Bank would allow beneficiaries to receive funds quickly, safely and without hassle directly in their Nagad wallets, while also enabling low-cost cash-out options and easy access through Nagad’s nationwide network.

Rupali Bank Managing Director Kazi Md Wahidul Islam said the state-owned bank always prioritises the safe and timely delivery of remittance earnings to expatriates’ families.

He said the agreement with Nagad would help extend remittance services to remote areas and strengthen formal financial channels.

Senior officials from both organisations were present at the signing ceremony.

Nagad has recently introduced Bangla QR payment services and National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB) facilities, enabling users to make cashless payments at around 10 lakh merchant points and transfer funds instantly between bank accounts and mobile financial service platforms.

Officials said these digital services will further support remittance-receiving families by allowing seamless use of funds for shopping, utility bill payments, education fees and other daily transactions.
