Newly appointed National Board of Revenue (NBR) acting Chairman Ahsan Habib joined office on Tuesday.

He arrived at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon and later met officials and staff at all levels of the organisation.

NBR Public Relations Officer Md Al Amin Sheikh confirmed the development.

Ahsan Habib was appointed acting chairman of the NBR on Monday. He had been serving as a member of the Tax Administration and Human Resource Management Wing of the organisation.

He succeeded Md Abdur Rahman Khan. His appointment marks the first time the NBR has appointed one of its own officials as chairman.

Before becoming an NBR member, Ahsan Habib served as Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) during the interim government's tenure. In that role, he led investigations into alleged tax evasion involving several business groups linked to the ousted Awami League government.
