The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) has approved the creation of three new upazilas and one new police station.
The new upazilas are Fatikchhari North in Chattogram, Bangra in Cumilla and Pagla in Mymensingh. The newly approved police station is Halda Police Station in Chattogram.
The approval was given at the 121st meeting of NICAR, held on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division conference room at the Secretariat, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair, according to Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Hasan Shiplu.
Hasan Shiplu said the committee approved the new upazilas and police station during the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The committee also decided to bring the portions of Narayanganj and Gazipur districts that fall within the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK)'s Purbachal New Town Project under the administrative jurisdiction of Dhaka district.
According to the NICAR proposal, Fatikchhari North Upazila will be formed with six unions of Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram district. Bangra Upazila will be created by dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla district, while Pagla Upazila will comprise eight unions currently under Pagla Police Station of Gafargaon Upazila in Mymensingh district.
The new Halda Police Station will be established by dividing Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram.
The NICAR meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport and Communications Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, and secretaries of the relevant ministries.
