Patwari to join Khamenei’s Janaza in Iran

National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari is set to travel to Iran to attend the state Janaza and mourning ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, although his travel schedule has yet to be finalized, party sources said on Wednesday.

According to party sources, Patwari submitted his visa application at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka on Tuesday, which was approved on Wednesday. Preparations are now underway to arrange his air travel.

The NCP said the delegation’s itinerary is still being finalised.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and a delegation from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami are also scheduled to attend the ceremonies in Iran.

The Jamaat delegation will be led by Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman and includes members Md Nurul Amin, Dr Md Keramat Ali and SM Khaliduzzaman.

Iranian authorities are organising the state Janaza and mourning events from July 4 to 9 in Tehran, Qom and Mashhad, the birthplace of the late leader, which are expected to draw large international participation.

The ceremonies follow the reported death of Ayatollah Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike in Tehran earlier this year, according to sources cited in the report.
